from wikipedia:

Heart (Italian: Cuore) is a children's novel written by Italian author Edmondo De Amicis. It is set during the Italian unification, and includes several patriotic themes. It was issued by Treves on October 17, 1886, the first day of school in Italy, and rose to immediate success.

Through its investigation of social issues such as poverty, Heart shows the influence of left-wing ideologies on De Amicis' work (he was later to join the Italian Socialist Party). Because of this, the book remained influential (and the staple of many textbooks) in countries of the Eastern Bloc.

The novel was translated into Chinese in the early 20th Century (with the title "愛的教育", literally "the Education of Love") and was quite well known in Asia.

The story is also popular in Japan, where a chapter of it was animated into the 52 episode series, 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother. It was later entirely adapted by Nippon Animation Co., Ltd. into the 26-episode anime TV series Ai no Gakko Cuore Monogatari (School of Love: The Story of Heart) in 1981. This series was broadcast on Italian TV as Cuore, the title of the original novel.

This puzzle is not solvable. The proof involves noting that there are two distinct sets of positions which can be assembled from the pieces with different parity, and there is no way of moving between them using the allowed moves, as they preserve parity. The parity in this context (the invariant) is the parity (odd or even) of the number of pairs of pieces in reverse order plus the row number of the empty square. For the order of the 15 pieces consider line 2 after line 1, etc., like words on a page.

Thus an even permutation of the order of the 15 pieces can only be obtained if the empty square is not moved or moved two rows, and an odd permutation of the order of the 15 pieces can only be obtained if the empty square is moved one or three rows.

By contrast, note that considering the parity of permutations of all 16 squares (15 pieces plus empty square) is not meaningful here, because it changes with every move.

Just Think

Just try to think about these sentences and then think about now, think about us:

...He sang about 15 songs -- mostly with the piano, and a couple with the guitar. He showed a passion and intensity that could only come straight from the heart. With every word, with every pounding of the note you could feel not only the pain from the sad songs, but also Farhad's. Were these the cries of a singer after almost 20 years of silence?
Perhaps the song that he seemed to relate to most was, "Ayneh-ha" (Mirrors), where a man doesn't recognize himself in the mirror -- a man who can't bring back the past or tolerate the present. What got to me most was "Koodakaaneh" (Childhood Memories), about remembering Noruz as a child in the beginning of spring. But perhaps the most powerful moment was when he was repeating a line from one of his new songs: "I wish we could take our country with us wherever we want like violets."
The only word Farhad spoke to the audience throughout the night was "Moteshakeram" (thank you). There were interruptions between songs from people asking that he "say something." He would only respond with a smile. He said it all with his songs. We all knew it and appreciated it...
